around, having a jolly good time without doing much of anything.
By noon, though, it began to get a little hot, and we decided to
take temporary refuge in a movie theater.
What movie did we watch, you ask? Well, of course it was something
suitable for our age group. "Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of
Ga'Hoole," to be exact.
Granted, the dark theme and fierce battle scenes in this movie are
a little too intense for your typical two-and-half-year-olds.
However, since this was one of the only two offerings at the local
multiplex that are not rated R or PG-13, and since we are really not
all that into horse racing, we decided to take on this little challenge
to our intellectual development and mental maturity.
The movie is pretty much your standard Hollywood animation staple,
with all the mandatory ingredients: love, hatred, hope, betrayal, a
heroic struggle for excellence, and the usual buzzer-beating, game-
winning miracle shot, all set in an epic battle between the good and
the evil, inevitably with the cowboys in white hats coming out on top
after vanquishing a powerful, dangerous, and nearly insane foe who
had somehow acquired a supernatural power. But it doesn't matter.
The computer-generated graphics are simply marvelous, and they
alone would be well worthwhile.
I should also mention that the 3D effects are beyond excellent,
although one of us did not like the feeling of the 3D glasses on
her face and watched most of the movie without them. Nevertheless,
once the movie was finished, she insisted on wearing the glasses to
the parking lot, and flatly refused to drop them in the collection box.
Later tonight, when I flipped on the TV, she immediately dug up those
glasses and put them on. I bet she was royally disappointed that Big
Bird and Elmo did not pop out from the TV screen as the owls did in
the movie theater. :-)

a downpour (approx. 1:11-1:15), and take in how his thick coat of
feathers flutter in the wind and how the rain drops bounce off his
face...not to mention the overall artistic appeals of the big picture.
A marvelous piece of CG work, if you ask me.
