发帖数: 687 | 4 After 7 years, my car passed 100k milestone. The maintenance which stealer
recommended would require around $5000, while the KBB value of my car's
residue value is just around $7000-$8000. Car still runs great, but
everything made of rubber ages enough that causing various kinds of fluid
leaking (All BMW is infamous for fluid leaking after some age, not just my
car). So far the repair I did includes
1. replacement of whole cooling system
2. spark plug replacement
3. A/C and serpentine belt replacement
4. power steering hose (reservoir to pump) replacement
5. Oil housing gasket replacement.
One time I went to a non-dealer shop, the price is half of the dealer. But
the shop is quite dirty, and the mechanical never torque the bolts when
installing. So I decided to repair my own car. It caused a lot of time to
study on the internet how other guys repair their BMW.
I am not 修车哥，so I am not interested in repairing other people's car,
plus I do not want to take any risk if my repairing causes risk to other
people. But as I talked with GUSU before, I got impression that he knows lot
about car maintenance, and he likes to repair other people'car.

发帖数: 687 | 8 Forget one thing, if you see "service engine soon" light up, do not worry
much. BMW's O2 sensors malfunction sooner than expected. CA law requires
150k mileages/10(?) years warranty on emission system of cars bought in CA,
dealer will replace any defect emission components under warranty for free.
There is not much dealer need do under 50k mileage. When I sent my car for
scheduled maintenance under 50k, dealer just checked and marked every thing
is good. But the cooling system may start failing at 80k mileage, so dealer
will recommend to replace it proactively. And fluid may start leaking at
100k mileage. BMW is a high performance car, but not a reliable and easy-
maintenance car. One thing for sure, my next car will not be BMW.

我之前在temple city的一个华人（越南华侨？）的修车铺换过刹车和一些小东西，老
板人不错，不需要换的东西绝对不会骗你换。把地址pm给你了，你可以自己上yelp上查
一下他的rating再做决定。 |

I never put my hands on BMWs, I lease them every three years and trash back
to dealer.
But who know, I may keep one for longer time and do need to dig under the
hood.
