“Written by two-time Drama Desk nominee Nicky Silver (Pterodactyls, Raised
in Captivity, The Food Chain), The Maiden's Prayer is the story of five
people whose love lives intertwine in complicated and frustrating ways,
leaving each of them at least a little bit dissatisfied. Cynthia and Taylor
are a happy couple who everyone loves -- or so it seems. In reality, it's
Taylor who's getting most of the love, but from all the wrong places.
Secretly, his childhood friend Paul is in love with him, as is his hard-
drinking sister-in-law Libby. Paul and Libby deal with unrequited love in
their own ways, as do the other characters in the show, who each find
themselves pursuing or being pursued by the wrong person. To quote the play,
people often fall in love with an "idea of who someone is." The Maiden's
Prayer illustrates that premise with decidedly biting humor. ”
