funded school, has to have permissions for coach salaries. Our assistant's
salaries are in thousands, but SEC schools are paying assistant coaches in
million range. There is no competition there.
In pac 10/12, you already have USC, Oregon, Washington and Arizona with
unlimited budgets, now you put long horns and sooners in the mix, there is
no way a public school can ever compete. We don't have facilities, top notch
assistant coaches, and we don't have houses to give away like USC did to
attract top recruits.
It is sad, but this realignment of conferences is pretty much the death
sentence for UCLA football.

exception of usc, are all public schools
coaches don't get paid that much in straight salary, a huge part of their
package comes from radio/endorsements

top 25 football schools, most of them are public state run schools. I think
UCLA needs to get a new head coach that knows how to turn around a program.

发帖数: 1461 | 13 that depends on expectations. I am sure UCLA can survive and on a good year,
maybe get into sun bowl? Chances of getting back to be contender again is
diminishing. Not only we have to compete with old pac teams, now we had to
compete against the added 4 monsters.
For coach salaries, what you said is true for all coaches. UCLA assistant
coaches, collectively after a pay cut, made 1.6 million while Gus Malzahn,
OC of Auburn made 1.3 million ALONE
to keep up with SEC and big 12, and other PAC schools, you HAVE TO pay to
get better assistant coaches. Sadly, UC just doesn't have the money to pay.
If I am the head coach of UCLA (of course this is a wet dream), what can I
do with limited budgets for assistant coaches, old facilities, and crappy
records for top recruits? In the same time, other teams are promising NFL
class facilities, NFL careers and "packages". Academic excellence doesn't
mean a damn thing. Maybe it means something to O line, but that's about it.

UCLA just doesn't have anything close to our competitors. True, it is not
public or private, but you have to have the money behind it. UCLA just had a
pay cut on assistant coaches.
After all, it is an arm race on blue chips. You don't have players, you don'
t have victories. That's why PC is so damn successfully in college, but he
will SUCK in NFL. he will be fired in 2 seasons, top, and you can quote me
on that

the University of Washington before.
He brought down both programs.
I went to CU Boulder in the early 90s. When he took over
CU Buffaloes, it was one of the power houses in the nation.
After several years under him, it collapsed.
Then he sweet talked his way to UW and got fired and
then to UCLA.
He is not only a proven loser but a lawyer by trade also.
I am glad he is bringing down UCLA with him since CU Boulder
joins the PAC-12 this year. If CU beat UCLA, then it is
going to be a sweet revenge. |

Last 4 seasons:
Cal finished at 7th, 4th, 5th and 8th in pac 10..... I have a lot of
respects for Cal (especially on the amazing year of 2006, they got robbed
that year) but with the pay hike (thanks SEC and Big 12), both Cal and UCLA
have hard time to keep up

john wooden's successor at ucla for not winning repeat national

he only had 1 losing season at colorado, compared to the guys after him, not

succeeds him b/c of the NCAA punishments for violations.
He moved on to the next program, while left behind one destroyed
by his conducts.
He got hired by UCLA b/c he was a former QB for Bruins, i.e. connections.
UCLA should have never hired him.
PC left USC b/c he knew USC would be penalized by NCAA for his violations.
Now I have a lot fun seeing seahawks is getting killed
day in and day out under him.
