t**********p 发帖数: 2672 | 1 An attempt to Muir Peak via Southwest Ridge on Sunday. I don't usually hike
on Sundays, especially I just did Baldy +3T the day before but when someone
bailed out on me, i figure I could use the time for some exploration on the
this ridge.
I first heard about this ridge from Ze who had done this and said that this
ridge is bushy but it is doable, but what the heck, I can't seems to find
anything in San Gabriel that is not doable for Ze. For the sake of finding
out what he meant by "doable", I thought I'd give it a shot.
at 2 PM I had a very late start in Eaton Canyon where it is crowd as usual,
the ridge become visible not very far into the waterfall hike.
I took the Altadena Crest Trail for about 0.5 mile, a pretty obvious access
point to this ridge immediate to the right. I saw a firebreak as soon as I
took it up and I knew I was on the right track!
here is a look back, i guess, the better part of the ridge
Foot prints are visible 200' ft onto this firebreak then it disappear as "
thick" bushes begin to appear, I had to make my own way thereafter.
a panorama shot from the ridge
Some route finding is necessarily to find the best and safe route along the
class 2 scrambling near the top of the tower.
I got to the first tower about 40 minutes to the hike and here's a look back
from the first tower
seeing the "thicker" brush ahead, i was on approx 2200' and the Muir Peak is
at 4682', I told myself there is no way I could make it to the peak so I
called it a nice day instead.
descent into bushes, what a way to relax yourself on a sunday
here is map of the route I took
this will be a great loop with Inspiration Point and down to Echo Mountain. | J******h 发帖数: 6102 | | l******t 发帖数: 6483 | 3 不错。
