for more permits for future construction, another sign that the housing
market has decisively hit its stride.
Housing starts rose 10.5% to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.17
million, the Commerce Department said Wednesday. Permits, which foreshadow
future starts activity, jumped 11.0% to a 1.29 million pace, the strongest
since June.
While housing construction has largely been driven by multifamily buildings
in recent years, November’s data showed fresh highs for single-family homes
. Permits to build such homes ran at the strongest pace since December 2007. |
