过是银行断臂求生的方法而已。

My comments to the Editor:
Hello Les,
We purchases our home in Phoenix Metro (Chandler) in 2005 for 465K. Our loan
was with Country Wide and was moved to Bank of America a few years ago with
the merger. The current value of the home is about 100K less then the
purchase price.
I have been married for 14 years. My wife and I bought our first home in
1999 in Mesa, AZ for 94K. Our current house was our fourth home purchase. We
always worked very hard to increase each of these homes value by doing work
on the house ourselves, paint, tile work, dry wall, landscaping. In
addition, we have been very disciplined to put some amount of money every
month towards the principal of our home mortgage.
I always believed it was very important for myself and my family to pay off
our dept as fast as possible. We never ran up the cards, we always purchased
older cars, as to not have car payments, etc. I believed this would allow
security for my family when the bad times occurred down the road...and I
believed someday they would come in one way or another So, when the housing
market crashed in Arizona in 2006 - 2008, because we were disciplined in
paying down our mortgage every month for years, we were safe from being
thrown out of our home, as many homes in our neighborhood went to
foreclosure, and depressed our homes value even more.
So now we are in the same home that we have been in since 2005. The value of
our home is 100K less then we purchased for then. And because I was
disciplined for years, and sacrificed our time, money, and many luxuries, we
will see nothing from Bank of America. Isn't that correct? If we do not owe
more then the value of our home, we simply do not qualify!
I must ask what has happened to America? How am I to teach value, discipline
, and integrity to my own children, when so obviously society tells us, "be
foolish, buy more then you need, run up the debt" and what will happen to
you? You will get bailed out by the government or large companies like Bank
of America.
Do I have a right to be irked? I definitely do. Work hard, do your time,
sacrifice, for what? So the person next door has 100K knocked off from Bank
of America for being unwise!
Bank of America, I want my mortgage also reduced by 100K! Have some
integrity and do the right thing.
Sincerely,
Doug Thompson
