1) how good you are at investment;
2) how much your property tax+insurance are;
3) how long you want to pay the loan.
If you
1) No skill of investment; No difference with escrow or not.
2) $100/year; Even you are good at investment, you won't get $400 back from
temporary invest $100/year.
3) You'll pay back the mortgage in a year. Then no much difference neither.
On the other hand, if none of them is true, you have 10K property tax to
invest before hand it in, even the interest is 1%, you will get the $400 back
after only 4 years. Certainly, you might get it back in one day if you put the
money into stock market.
Above all, the first factor is most decisive.
