Easy access between basement and backyard.
Equal to an extra big window and all of benefits of it like light and view.
Easier to get fresh air.
Cons:
More expensive.
Usually means uneven lot.
Usually not as energy efficient.
Extra entry to the house means more security concerns.

generally safe.

Yes, basement door has similar security concerns as first floor windows and
glass doors. What I meant is that the more weak points you have, the more
security issues you have to address, like better locks, more security camera
and motion sensors.
For a full walk out basement, it is hard for the lot not to be steep to have
a drop of a whole floor hight from the front to the back of the house. For
example, a drop of 8 feet over 20 feet leads to a slope of 22 degrees. It is
hard to call that not s

Unless you can say 100% safe, there is always more concern with an extra big
exterior door.
A big door is always one of the biggest energy suckers for a house. I think
few people on this board can say "energy bill is a minor concern".

with rail, the steep "rail" parts are the sides of the lots, and the front
yard and backyard are the "step" parts relatively flat. |

For people with small side lot, it should be OK, although it is always an
inconvenience to go between front and back yards, say for mowing and
gardening. But for people with significant side lot, like me, it is a much
bigger problem.

great view, natural light and air, as well as the ability to make basement a
more natural living space, it is not a big deal for a lot of people.
