c******n 发帖数: 4965 | 1 my vnc server is a ubuntu linux box, running screen at 1600x1200,
the monitor setup in "preferences" from gnome also has options 1280x1024
and smaller
but my vnc viewer is on windows, and my windows LCD is probably 1440x1024,
how could I force the linux box to have a 1440x1024 monitor size choice?

| c******n 发帖数: 4965 | 5 thanks, I took some time and overrode /etc/X11/xorg.conf (it's not there by
default) and re-wrote Monitor Modeline
another question: if I log out from gnome-session, inside vnc viewer, then I
can't connect again from viewer, and have to go to the physical server box
and login from there, then connect from viewer.
any good way around this?

The better way is just create frame buffer only VNC session, by
vnc-server. That way the server session has nothing to do with
your gnome login. In your gnome, you can use vnc viewer to connect
to your local copy of the vncserver, full screen. A bit silly
but that make sure the remote working is exactly the same as
local working.

what I did was: on ubuntu 10.10, in gnome management, I enable "remote
desktop",
some search shows that indeed under such settings, the vpn session is
spawned by gnome session
