A Conversation with Chen Kaige on Yellow Earth (online)

China Institute is honored to welcome Chen Kaige, one of China’s greatest
directors, in conversation with filmmaker Janet Yang and film expert Richard
Pena, to discuss Yellow Earth, which revolutionized the way films were
watched and created in China, and its enduring legacy nearly 40 years after
its release.
Chen Kaige’s 1984 debut film, Yellow Earth, is a pioneering work that
defied the social realism of its era and launched a new era in Chinese film.
The epic collaboration between “5th generation” film legends Chen Kaige
and Zhang Yimou (the film’s cinematographer) took only 60 days to film but
stands today as one of the greatest Chinese movies ever made.
This virtual event kicks off the next phase of China Institute’s ongoing
film series, Seeing China Through Film, curated by Richard Pena, which
highlights China’s most important films from 1922 to the present.

and American educators John Dewey and Paul Monroe, China Institute is the
oldest bicultural, non-profit organization in America to focus exclusively
on China.

据罗尔纲说，胡思杜热爱鲁迅。解放后留在北京，
反右运动中，胡思杜被迫自缢，时年36岁。
不知胡适去世时，会不会想起康有为所说，革命一但开启，
将会大乱七十年之语。

当然也有可能令尊令堂也很年轻。

村人争一口井是吧，我既看不大懂，又很害怕里面的暴力打杀，还觉得脏乎乎的……
