should be responsible. But if it's structural defect, then landlord should
be responsible. If the crack was there when you moved in and just became
bigger, it's probably okay. But if it wasn't there and now it is, then you
would have some trouble...

I think the only time the tenant is held liable is that the tenant caused
the damage, AND the defects are not a result of tear and wear. In other
words the landlord is responsible for the cracks resulting from normal tear
and wear.
