I fully agree with you. That’s why I put a CA city at the end of my list.
Moreover, you work in LA and have the first-hand knowledge. In case it may be
helpful, I will elaborate a little more. Again, this is just my personal
feeling and opinion.
CA is historically the heaven for Chinese jobseekers. As a result, the
unadvertised quotas have been reached in many firms and institutions. You may
hear murmurs like “Asian overrepresented” as an excuse for not hiring more.

Littletigger, thanks a lot for providing your input to this board, constantly.
You are always very nice and informative.
I was just a little bit curious about those opportunities you mentioned, 'Most
of these choices aren’t available for Chinese students." What are those
choices?

littletigger, your writing is getting stronger by the day, are you sure you
don't want to be a litigator?
here is my crack on the problem: among the Aemrican students, if you are in
the second tier (below top 14), only the top 10% get all the good offers
(>=125k/yr), the rest get very little or even nothing. If you are in top 14,
things might be better.
regarding the shmoothing skills, I remember the original poster mentioned that
he could talk a lot about life and culture with the interviewer

You are welcome. Although I will stay quiet for a couple of months after today
because I have lagged behind so much for the 19 credits of course work that I
took this semester.
If you look at the law school rankings in US news, you will see that the
employment rates are quite high---over 90%, in general, for the first tier
schools. Then why should we even worry about getting a job?
Because only a small fraction of the jobs actually pay you 125K/year.
Americans can find jobs like public defenders

Thanks, I try to improve but there is really no shortcut.
I actually like to do both because I like certain aspects of each. I will have
a better idea after next summer. But I think litigation is inherently more
demanding for Chinese students. At some point, simply writing briefs will not
be able to justify the billing rate by which we charge the clients. But I
heard your spoken-English is superb. That's another thing I have to improve.

That's true, I am focused on money. It may sound too much, but I think this
is what really matters. Some would trade money with life style, that's cool

I haven't tried litigation, I will find out next summer. My guess is that
litigation won't be the game for us Chinese, because we have to work much
harder, and we don't have any edge over Americans (except for China-related
cases.)
But, that being said, I think litigation is important. At least to think like
a litigator.
With some litigation experience, I would be better doing other stuff --
prosecution or
transaction. At this moment, I still think prosecution is a faster track
