I'm part of the LGBT community and I have to say that I disagree with the
court order. We've asked those who are straight to put themselves in our
shoes and now it's time we put ourselves in theirs.
You have to admit that if you are a woman you would not feel comfortable
with someone who has a penis being in the locker room(I'd imagine even
moreso if you are a lesbian). IF the student had the penis cut off and was
taking the hormones and any other practices that go with the sex changing
process then I'd have to agree with the court order. However thus far it has
not happened(either because the student isn't ready to get the operation,
or too young or can't afford it).
Again, I'm not trying to sound like a "sellout" or a traitor(I'll probably
get accused of it anyway) but can't agree with the court. If the student was
not allowed to play on the girls' sports team then that would be a case to
actually talk about and where I could support the student, but you can't
blame a woman for not wanting to have a penis in the girl's locker room. If
back then when discrimination against those of the LGBT was far worse and we
still managed to survive and make a living, I think we will be just fine
with changing in a separate room, it won't be the end of the world. Gay guy. |
