#1) One of my longest-standing clients has just received a $31 million
round of Venture Capital funding and is aggressively expanding, hiring
multiple positions for world-class CMOS semiconductor engineers. The
company is a leader in the field of next-generation nonvolatile memory and
is now working with a number of major customers, Their innovative memory has
the potential to replace both flash and DRAM. This is a chance to work on
leading-edge, advanced node development directly with engaged customers, as
part of a team that includes highly-experienced engineers who have brought
many memory products to market before, in the Silicon Valley.
Senior Process Integration Engineer, Nonvolatile Memory
EXPERIENCE:
Must have 15-20+ years experience in semiconductor process integration and
transfer. Should have served as lead process integration engineer from
inception on at least one semiconductor product. Background in memory,
especially nonvolatile memory, is a major plus. Very strong knowledge of
device physics required. Background in device engineering or device
simulation is a plus. Having prior portfolio of patents is a big plus.
EDUCATION: MS or PhD degree in materials science, electrical engineering, or
solid state physics.
Position involves working with wafer fab foundries on process development
and CMOS integration as well as closely interacting with the chip design
team.
Responsibilities include:
* CMOS process integration design, and characterization
* Writing process flow chart and defining processing steps
* Evaluation of process capability, tool sets, process control systems,
cycle time, and foundry selection in conjunction with the NRAMT design
teams
* Supporting product building and qualification
* Strong interaction with the packaging team and applications engineers
* Define layout design rules
* Design test patterns for process monitoring
NOTE: This is indeed a senior-level position, and could be a "Director"
title for the appropriate individual. Location could be EITHER Austin, TX
or San Jose, CA. Ability to speak Chinese would be a plus (not required).
Travel will be about 15%.

Position Overview: Advanced Digital Manufacturing Systems Leader
(Harrisburg, PA)
This is an opportunity for an Advanced Manufacturing Technology (AMT)
Digital Manufacturing Systems Leader with mastery of advanced methodologies,
processes & technologies to align change efforts with business goals &
strategies of a manufacturing company. The individual will lead a small team
designing 3D items for printing on 3D printers, detail existing designs,
and prepare parts for various additive manufacturing printers. This
individual will work with the materials development group to jointly deploy
materials developed for production using 3D technologies. This individual
will also work with the team to develop and deploy the tools necessary for
the business unit designers to properly design 3D items for printing.
In addition, the individual will develop strategies, technology road-maps
and implement processes and operating systems in support of connector
manufacturing technologies and sub-assemblies applying digital and additive
manufacturing.
Responsibilities:
As an Additive Manufacturing Systems Leader, you will report to the Director
/Fellow of Advanced Manufacturing Technology and interface directly with
manufacturing engineering team inside AMT and different business units to
provide technical expertise on current cutting edge and next generation
technologies. The individual will be working closely with process engineers,
manufacturing engineers and external system integrators. Most importantly,
the individual will have the opportunity to design parts for new 3D printers
and design modifications to existing printers, assemble these parts and
modifications, and sometimes make or modify these parts in the shop or lab.
 Responsible for optimization of Additive Manufacturing processes
focused on 3D Printing.
 Responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining advanced
digital manufacturing methodologies and systems.
 Work with team members in AMT and the BU(s) to create Digital
Manufacturing models for product designs.
 Work with team members in AMT and the BU(s) to develop the tools,
procedures, and training required for the BU(s) to design and prepare their
own Digital Manufactured parts.
 Work with the team members in AMT and the BU(s) to deploy Digital
Manufacturing throughout the company.
 Working with intellectual property (IP) councils and legal teams to
innovate and to strengthen IP strategies and portfolios in advanced
manufacturing technology.
 Provides leadership to technical personnel to ensure new product
design using 3D technologies meets quality and production goals.
Professional Qualifications:
1. The Additive Manufacturing Systems Leader must be a strategic thinker and
problem solver. He/she must combine a detailed technical knowledge with
business functions, and operations management.
2. The candidate should also be aware with the latest technologies related
to various methods and implementations of other additive manufacturing
processes in addition to 3D printing.
3. He/she should be well organized, disciplined and self-motivated, with the
capability to balance multiple priorities related to operations and
organization. He/she must be able to communicate with internal company
personnel, as well as various BU’s, with equal effectiveness and
professionalism.
4. Master’s Degree (PhD Preferred) in Engineering from an accredited
college or university.
5. Strongly preferred 10+ years of experience in developing and implementing
digital manufacturing processes, with focus on 3D additive manufacturing
tools and methods.
6. Very strong capability for developing new algorithms for point cloud
representation using computational geometry algorithms and methods. Working
knowledge of dynamic programming and other mathematical approaches to curve
and surface modeling including blending techniques.
7. Candidates must be familiar with CAD file format translations, and design
for manufacturing. An understanding of Creo/ProE or other solid modeling
CAD packages is required. In addition familiarity with CAE methods including
Ansys is preferred.
8. Responsible for developing and implementing and maintaining advanced
manufacturing methodologies and systems.
9. Experience working on projects using an open source 3D printer and
Manipulating 3D CAD models, file conversion and model creation. Additional
experience with Stratasys printers and software is preferred.
10. Experience with Pre-processing models to prepare for fabrication and
Post-processing models generated on 3D printing equipment.
11. Analyze system requirements, capacity, cost, and customer needs to
determine feasibility of a project and development plan.
12. Determine capital equipment needs & development of the budget process
for equipment, training and software.
13. Confer with suppliers, staff, and management personnel regarding
purchases, procedures, product specifications, manufacturing capabilities,
and projects status.
14. Candidate must be familiar with polymer processing techniques and
polymer material properties. Prior molding or extrusion experience is
preferred.
NOTE: Digital Manufacturing Experience is a MUST.
#3) Another (different) client is a technology start-up that has just
achieved their "A" round of VC funding, developing a portfolio of emerging
photo-voltaic technologies that enable seamless deployment of light-
harvesting functionality in the form of products and surfaces we interact
with every day. This technology is a transparent coating that enables any
surface to convert ambient light into useful electricity without impacting
the way it looks. It can be integrated directly into the surfaces of mobile
electronics as an auxiliary power source, with no degradation of device
function or display clarity. Among other applications, this thin-film
technology can also serve as an invisible, power-producing coating for
windows, providing an onboard power source for electronic window
functionality or to offset energy consumption in buildings.
Director of Device Development (Redwood City, CA)
My client seeks an exceptional candidate to lead the company’s photovoltaic
device development efforts. We are targeting an individual with a strong
track record leading technology development teams who has a background in
optoelectronic devices, organic semiconductors, display technologies, and
PVD processes. The ideal candidate has successfully executed technology
development strategies through all phases of emerging technology development
from technology demonstration to proof-of-concept prototype to commercial
product. The chosen candidate will direct the day-to-day operations of the
device development team (initially 5-8 FTEs) including device architecture
development and optimization, module scaling, and prototyping activities.
The chosen candidate will have a strong voice in the technical direction of
the company and expanding the device development team. As an early member of
the team, the candidate should expect the role to evolve as the company
grows and must be willing to perform both hands-on and managerial roles as
necessary. This position will report to the CEO.
Responsibilities:
The Director of Device Development will be expected to lead the device
development team (initially 5-8 FTEs) in the following activities, but may
also be asked to take on additional roles as needed:
•Manage and execute the company’s photovoltaic device development
efforts from technology demonstration to proof-of-concept prototype to
commercial product.
•Manage and execute laboratory operations for maximized productivity,
including equipment and facility design/install/maintenance and material/
supply sourcing. Identify and plan technology development strategy and
milestones, including pathway for optimizing device efficiency, optical
properties, and lifetime.
•Manage and execute the design, fabrication, testing, and optimization
of photovoltaic prototype devices based on small-molecule organic
semiconductors against milestones.
•Work with chemistry team to integrate new materials into device
development pipeline.
•Manage and execute the design and integration of PVs with display
components, power electronics, circuitry, and other balance of system
components in product prototypes.
•Plan and manage development and prototyping projects with commercial
partners.
•Collaborate across all teams to plan manufacturing strategy based on
prototypes devices.
•Lead the device development team in preparing grant proposals,
intellectual property filings, and reports.
Requirements:
•6+ years experience leading technology development teams of 5 or more.
•Experience optimizing organic optoelectronic devices required: OPV,
OLED, etc. (OPV and small molecule experience preferred).
•Experience with PVD processes required: thermal evaporation, sputter,
ebeam, etc.
•Experience and/or competency in the following areas preferred:
display technologies, power electronics, laser patterning, encapsulation/
packaging, thin film characterization.
•Experience executing and evolving technology development strategies
across multiple phases of development: from technology demonstration to
proof-of-concept prototype to commercial product.
•Track record of intellectual property development.
•Track record managing technology development programs with commercial
partners to meet aggressive technology, prototype, and product milestones.
•Startup experience (<20 FTEs) preferred.
•Strong analytical, intuitive, and creative problem solving
capabilities.
•Outstanding communication skills; ability to synthesize complex ideas
and concepts into simple and intuitive communications (oral, written, and
visual).
•A team player ready to work in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
•PhD in electrical engineering, chemical engineering, materials
science, or related field preferred.

Quantum Dot Synthetic Chemist
The Quantum Dot Synthetic Chemist will be responsible for the invention,
improvement and standardization of synthesis and characterization of
proprietary semiconductor quantum dots for QD-based light-emitting diodes (
QLED) for next-generation display and lighting technology.
He/she will work closely with Research Engineers to develop QD synthesis
protocols which provide high efficiency and long operating lifetime QLEDs.
The well-qualified candidate will have a solid background in inert
atmosphere and high purity synthesis and characterization of II-VI
semiconductor QD materials.
Additionally, the candidate should have an intimate understanding of the
relationship between synthesis protocols and materials properties such as PL
quantum yield, exciton lifetimes, band structures, etc. A willingness to
abide by chemical safety and hygiene, participate in team-oriented
experimentation, and experience in technical presentation and writing are
essential.
A successful member of our team must be willing to work in a high impact,
fast-paced research environment.
Primary duties and Key Responsibilities:
 Develop and standardize synthetic protocols for high quantum yield,
air-stable II-VI QDs emitting in the visible spectrum.
 Make recommendations concerning the development, documentation and
performance of production processes for continued improvement
 Read and follow process documentation and safety procedures.
 Interact with research supervisor and other staff on an on-going
basis
 Maintain processing and equipment records as required
 Maintain a safe and clean working environment
 Perform other duties as required
Job Requirements:
Educational: Ph.D. in Chemistry, Materials Science/Engineering, Chemical
Engineering, or closely related field.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
 II-VI semiconductor synthesis for air stability and high quantum
yield
 Material analysis techniques (UV-Vis, Photoluminescence, TEM, FTIR,
etc)
 Independently formulates work plans, good written and oral
communication skills, highly organized
 Semiconductor chemistry and physics coursework
 Proper chemical hygiene and safety
 Skilled user of Microsoft Office
 Detail oriented, sense of striving for a higher value, and performs
well under pressure
Desired Knowledge and Skills:
 Thin film processing for device fabrication (vacuum technology,
inert gas environments, spincoating)
 Software: LabVIEW, MATLAB, Origin
