The objective of the Center on Stochastic Modeling, Optimization, &
Statistics (COSMOS) at the University of Texas (UT) at Arlington is to
research the designing and modeling of complex real-world systems, in
particular, to develop new methods for making sound decisions. COSMOS
methods seek to integrate statistics, optimization, and simulation/
computational modeling to achieve better solutions more efficiently, and
COSMOS applications customize approaches to match the needs of the decision-

Currently we are actively looking for qualified Ph.D. students who will
start in spring 2014 or fall 2014. Graduate students or undergraduate with
background in data mining, mathematical modeling, computer science,
automation, information systems, electrical engineering are encouraged to
apply. If you are interested, please send your CV, transcripts, and TOEFL/
GRE scores (if availabe) to s*****[email protected]. Especially for those who hope
to start in spring 2014 are encouraged to send your CV to Dr. Wang as
soon as possible. We will make a quick offer decision for Spring 2014. More
openings are available for fall 2014. Accepted Ph.D. students will be
provided with full financial support for the entire PhD study (mostly 4

COSMOS is conducting world-leading research in Big Data Analytics, Data
Fusion, Pattern Recognition, Complex Systems Modeling; Intelligent Decision
Making Systems, and Medical Diagnosis and Prognostics. His research has
strong connections to industry and business. PhD graduates in the research
topics are popular and highly demanded/highly paid in the US job market.
Recent Ph.D. graduates of COSMOS at IMSE Department got jobs in United
Airlines, American Airlines, Bank of America, JPMorgan Chase, Amazon,
General Motors, Expedia, Washington University in St. Louis (Business School
Faculty), etc.
Located at the heart of the US fourth largest metropolitan areas (Dallas/
Fort Worth Area), the IMSE Department at UT Arlington is very strong in both
world-leading research activities and industry support and collaborations.
With great resources and Texas state support, the department is one of the
fastest growing IE program in US. As of 2013, the IMSE department has 48 PhD
students around 200 master students. The department has a strategic plan to
be consistently among the US top 30 Industrial & Systems Engineering
Program in the next following years. Currently, if industry support and
fundings accounted, the IMSE program at UT Arlington is one of the best that
located in big cities.
