Summary of Position
The Epidemiology Department resides within BARDS (Biostatistics and Research
Decisions Sciences), as a part of Clinical Development within Merck
Research Laboratories. Its research areas include epidemiology of disease,
pharmacoepidemiology (drug and vaccine safety, effectiveness and utilization
) and patient reported outcomes. The research conducted involves carrying
out studies and activities, often in collaboration with outside
investigators, to support epidemiologic needs applicable to all Merck
products. The department also conducts research using numerous in-house and
publicly available databases.
Major Activities and Responsibilities
• Performs literature review in responses to requests from MSD
China and Epidemiology Department located in MSD headquarters.
• Independently performs data queries and summarizes
epidemiological information using data from national sources to address
questions by senior members of Epidemiology or by other departments.
• Designs and coordinates all aspects of epidemiological research
programs.
• Participates in cross-functional teams. Proactively works with
other groups to identify epidemiological research needs and works
interactively to address such needs.
• Prepares reports to communicate epidemiological study results to
Merck management, internal committees, external investigators, and
regulatory agencies.
• Serves as a liaison with key opinion leaders and academic
institutions.
Background Requirements:
• Doctoral degree in Epidemiology or closely related discipline, or
a Master degree in Epidemiology, or a closely related discipline, with
equivalent experience (ability to conduct independent analysis of existing
datasets, together with at least three years of research experience).
• Understanding of fundamental principles of biostatistics,
epidemiology, human biology, and basic medical sciences.
• Knowledge of health care systems and medical literature databases
in China.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate
effectively. Fluency in both Chinese and English, verbal and written, is
essential.
• Good project management skills. Ability to engage key
stakeholders in BARDS, clinical, regulatory, and health outcomes groups
locally and internationally. |
