Sr. Operations Software Engineer – Monitoring & Automation
Job Description
Supporting and deploying SaaS and Managed Service Monitoring & Automation
capabilities along with designing, developing, improving and testing
Enterprise-grade applications that support 24x7 global customer operations.
Primary focus will be on Monitoring & Automation that provide service
assurance to SSN’s customer base. This is a hands-on role that requires
after-hours involvement and engagement in a fast-paced Operations
environment.
Responsibilities
Deploy and Support Monitoring & Automation capabilities for SSN hosted
customer applications and shared infrastructure services.
Provide 24x7 support for automation, integration, monitoring, ticketing and
reporting applications deployed by the Team when required.
Design and develop technology platforms, systems and applications for
critical customer operations initiatives.
Build software, systems and infrastructure that scales to support millions
of end nodes.
Build custom tools to drive efficiency in Operations day-to-day tasks.
Build integrations between Operational systems to support end-to-end
processes and drive data compliance
Participate in the full software lifecycle, including design, implementation
, testing, deployment and operations of the software.
Work with Software and Firmware Engineering teams to ensure automation
capabilities for new products and new releases are well instrumented ahead
of deployments to SSN customers.
Provide deep testing coverage for tools and processes developed by the team
and in support of Operations.
Document all tools and applications managed for internal stakeholders and
end-customers where appropriate.
Required Experience
Extensive experience in supporting and improving Operational Support Systems
in a large IT or Operational environment including superior problem solving
skills.
Experience in at least two major event management applications such as IBM
Netcool, BMC ProactiveNet, Nagios, HP OpenView, Zenoss, Zabbix, Monolith ITM
, etc.
Experience in developing automation instrumentation via scripts, programs,
plug-ins and repeatable run book automation techniques.
Mastery of at least two of the following languages: Java, Python, Perl, C, C
++, Ruby
UNIX mastery required.
Experience with developing, configuring and supporting applications in a
complex multi-tenant environment.
Database experience with Oracle, MySQL, Greenplum/Postgress and/or MSSQL.
Experience in code build, release and testing end-to-end with execution
experience on unit, system and integration testing with relevant testing
harnesses and tools
Comfortable working in a fast paced environment as it matures toward a
process-oriented, automation-focused environment.
Minimum 5 years of experience with a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science
or Electrical Engineering. Exceptional individuals with equivalent
background and work experience may also qualify.
Desired Additional Qualifications
Full understanding of Enterprise Service Management structures and systems
in the global context.
Implementation experience with enterprise-level middleware integration
platforms such as Tibco, Oracle Fusion, JBoss JMS, etc.
Experience with developing user-facing dashboards to provide in-context,
impact-focused intelligence to Operations.
Business Intelligence and data warehousing experience.
ITIL V3 certification (foundations or higher).
Experience with BMC technologies in the Service Automation, Service
Assurance, Enterprise Service Management space.
