The individual in this position is responsible for contributing to the
various product development areas including:
Process development
Based upon new and ongoing R&D priorities contribute to, develop and own
processes needed for LED integration
Provide suitable data analysis (JMP) on processes
Produce appropriate reports to development team
Component development: encapsulation and reflective coatings
Support materials selection, integration and process development by
implementing IQC, process controls with documentation and suitable
reliability screening methods
Monitor materials improvements from existing and new vendors
Produce appropriate reports to development team
Reliability and Failure analysis
Support the components and system development efforts by providing failure
analysis of ongoing rel tests using SEM, EDX, thermal imaging, near field
microscopy and other optical testing
Produce appropriate reports to development team
Minimum Qualifications for the Position:
BS in Materials, Chemical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
Min. 2 years experience in semiconductor product development or in
fabrication or device packaging processes required (corresponding LED
experience preferred);
Demonstrated hands-on working expertise in minimum one of these
semiconductor equipment and corresponding process development or sustaining
engineering areas:

Preferred Qualifications for the Position:
5+ years LED packaging process development experience
Experience in thermal, electrical, mechanical product design and
optoelectronic packaging desired.
Job Responsibilities:
Contribute to the development of novel semiconductor based solid-state lamps
.
Work with team of technicians, engineers, and scientists to develop novel
product designs, explore new materials and fabrication processes for LED
component and lamp assembly.
Perform process development and optimization of existing processes for pick
& place, soldering, dispensing and beyond.
Contribute to integration of various system components.
Assist in product characterization, reliability tests and relevant failure
mode analysis.
Develop new characterization methods as needed.
Supervise process technicians as needed.
Develop and author operating procedures and correspondingly train process
personnel.
Perform data analysis and process documentation and assist in process
transfer to manufacturing operation.
Interact with outside vendors to develop product specifications and support
process development
Travel to Cree’s manufacturing factories as needed to assist in process
development and transfer.
