Position Description
Title: Health Care Analyst
Company: Consortium Health Plans, Inc.
Location: Columbia, MD
Department: Sales Analytics, National Account Services
Reports to: Senior Health Care Economist
Reports to this Position: None
Education Required:
Bachelor degree in math, statistics, economics, health policy or business
related field.
Experience Required:
One to three years of experience in compiling data and performing research
and quantitative data analysis. Demonstrated ability to prioritize
assignments and independently work on multiple complex projects in a fast-
paced, deadline driven team environment.
Responsibilities:
The Health Care Analysis will work with interdisciplinary team of economist,
statisticians, actuaries and other health care professionals to support the
sales and retention of Blue Cross Blue Shield national accounts with
advanced analytical tools, methods, and services to help lead, manage, and
facilitate fact-based decision-making. The Health Care Analysis will analyze
health care provider network and financial data to demonstrate the strength
and economic value of Blue Cross Blue Shield provider networks and develop
medical cost data to support consumer driven cost initiatives by providing
members information and tools to help them make cost efficient decisions
regarding their health care.
Specific responsibilities include:
• Develop and integrate large volumes of raw, complex data from
multiple disparate sources into common databases.
• Profile and conduct preliminary analyses of data to assess
quality, completeness and integrity of source data.
• Develop processes to clean, map and reformat data for consistency.
• Create automated processes to track and document data development
processes to insure data quality.
• Work with business team to define data requirements and
participate in ongoing planning and design of data infrastructure.
• Gather, analyze, develop, and report healthcare analytics in
support of National Account Sales.
• Interact with other departmental staff to efficiently integrate
healthcare analytics with other departments and activities.
• Adhere to policies, procedures and programs protecting
confidential and proprietary data and information.
Qualifications:
• 1-3 years experience working with large complex databases and
development of processes to analyze, clean and transform raw data into
useful actionable information.
• 1-3 years of experience using SQL, SAS and other business
intelligence applications to perform quantitative/statistical analysis.
• Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
• Knowledge of health care industry is a plus.
• Bachelor degree in math, statistics, economics, health policy or
business related field.
• Self-motivated to prioritize work on multiple complex projects
with ongoing deadlines.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact
collaboratively with internal staff and develop relationships with Plans
staff and consultants.
