Applications International Corporation (SAIC) is seeking a qualified
Computational Scientist for the role of molecular and continuum dynamics
modeler.
Job Description: The incumbent must possess 7+ years of related experience
and a BS or equivalent degree (MS or Post-doc preferred) in chemistry,
biochemistry, biomolecular engineering and/ or have a background in modeling
of biological system on a molecular level. Background and practical
experience should include molecular biology (including the cloning and
sequencing of genes, enzyme assays, the production and characterization of
protein), drug analysis, and miscellaneous laboratory procedures such as
spectrophotometry (UV, visible, and fluorescence), centrifugation, and
sterilization. Hands-on experience using standard analytical methods, which
may include gas and liquid chromatography, electrochemical methods, mass
spectrometry, NMR, and optical spectroscopy and techniques such as solid-
phase extraction and other sampling methods is desired.
The candidate will investigate quantum mechanical, molecular dynamics and
continuum fluid dynamics computational methods to develop a multi-scale
understanding of biomolecular/particulate adsorption, desorption and
transport at model environmental surfaces in water and air. Non-equilibrium
molecular dynamics computations will be used to investigate the effects on
biomolecular transport in flowing electrolyte solutions due to a range of
nanosensor variables such as flow rate, solution salt concentration,
nanosurface roughness and charge distribution, and a distribution of wall-
tethered biomolecules.

augment Drug Development and Biomarker Discovery.
Primary Function:
Independently conceive, execute and communicate novel multi-disciplinary
research or development strategies that achieve project and area goals.
Generate new scientific proposals and lead those efforts. Anticipate and
critically evaluate scientific or regulatory advances or competitive threats
and respond with appropriate new strategies. Serve as a lead scientist on
his/her own project and contribute scientific insights into multiple other
projects. Consistently demonstrate excellent record of accomplishment of
scientific and business objectives.
Responsibilities:
Responsible for designing and synthesizing novel compounds to meet project
needs. Responsible for creating molecular models and applying cheminformatic
tools and fragment based drug discovery to achieve project goals.
Effectively function as a principle investigator, generating original
technical ideas and research or development strategies. Demonstrate creative
'out of the box' thinking to solve difficult problems and champion new
technologies to achieve project goals. Independently responsible for project
science within his/her area of expertise on one or more project teams.
Recognized and sought out as an expert in his/her discipline within the
company and possibly externally. Primary author of publications,
presentations, regulatory documents and/or primary inventor of patents.
Present at leading scientific conferences. Make significant contributions to
project team through lab based activities.

Effectively mentor and supervise scientific personnel. Evaluate staff

Qualifications:
BS with 14+ years of experience in drug discovery or MS with 12+ years of
experience; PhD with 6+ years of experience
Strong synthetic and medicinal chemistry skills
Highly experienced in creating molecular models and applying cheminformatics
tools in drug discovery
Expertise in fragment based drug discovery. Experience with the supervision
of scientists
The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in fragment-based drug
design, exhibit demonstrable capabilities in ligand- and structure-based
molecular modeling (using commercially available software packages such as
Insight, Schroedinger, etc), and be fluent in a variety of operating systems
(e.g., Windows, Linux) and programming languages (e.g., Pipeline Pilot,
perl, C++)
Equally important will be the candidate's ability to execute his/her ideas
in the lab. The candidate must have extensive experience in modern medicinal
chemistry and possess strong synthetic skills.

geared up for the future competition..... dose the multi talented people
include only the programmers, drug designers and synthesis scientist I guess
we missed some more criteria like Biotechnologist, Pharmacologist and a
clinical research associate (CRA) a list has no end.... I agree with Richard
Wood saying "jack of all trades, expert at none,,," one should be a
specialist in any one field otherwise its of no good studying any
specialization or point less that Institutes/Universities provide
specialization courses....If all the employers prefer multi talented people
what about the beginner...should they fight till they become multi talented
or else just give up facing the giants... I didn't find a single
Computational Chemist job neither in EU/UK nor in India who prefer a M.S
student all wants PhD and Post Doc with minimum +3 experiences...and finally
MS graduates end up in a job not of their filed.... competition is becoming
