Senior Java Developer
Location/Western : MI
BASIC PURPOSE:
Provide effective and efficient Java programming skills to support day-
to-day operation of the company’s Internet/intranet strategy. Takes the
lead role in analyzing, designing, programming, documenting, testing,
and implementing solutions for complex business problems. May involve
server application development, integration development, component
development, and /or database connectivity. Provides guidance and
assistance to programmers and project management skills for IT projects.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1. Responsible for adhering to companies behavior standard which is to
maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a
manner so that you get along with customers, clients, co-workers and
management.
2. Provide the technical leadership to resolve an end-user request or
incident report.
a. Assist the business unit in defining requirements for services.
b. Design, document, and recommend Java programming solutions.
c. Establishes schedules for analysis, programming, and project
completion/implementation.
d. Program, test, debug, and document approved solution using Java
programming (refer to Dimensions – 6.0 and 7.0 Technical Expertise).
e. Prepare comprehensive test plans to ensure program performance and
efficiency.
f. Coordinate user functional testing with appropriate individuals.
g. Prepare written documentation to guide the deployment of approved
solution throughout the software development cycle.
h. Coordinate implementation of approved solution with appropriate
individuals.
i. Report progress.
3. Provide on-call support as necessary.
4. Act as a mentor and technical resource to programmers and programmer
analysts.
5. Propose innovative and creative solutions to improve business unit
productivity, and/or business results.
6. Provide project leadership and management. May involve directing
other programmer/analysts assigned to work on the project.
7. Continue to develop related insurance business comprehension and
technical knowledge.
8. Responsible for adhering to all Information Security
policies/practices including reporting any security breaches, and
complying with company password management and PC locking policies.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Demonstrated ability in coordinating activities, analytical
reasoning, logical problem solving, and establishing priorities.
2. Job history demonstrating growth and development in technology and
business fields.
3. Excellent communication and presentation skills.
4. Ability to work independently and take the lead role in assignments.
5. Demonstrated knowledge of Java programming or related object-oriented
programming.
6. Demonstrated knowledge of database concepts.
7. Demonstrated knowledge of client/server concepts.
8. General knowledge of Java IDE tools and related utilities.
9. Associate or Bachelors degree, or relate Microsoft or Sun
certification, or equivalent experience.
10. Demonstrated experience in a web programming environment.
11. Certificate in General Insurance (IIA), Associate Designations, or
demonstrated insurance experience.
