四无量心简介
四无量心即慈、悲、喜、舍，为佛教四种广大的利他心。
所谓慈无量心，即友爱之心，能与众生安乐之心。悲无量心，即同情他人的痛苦，救拔
众生脱离苦境。喜无量心，即见人离苦得乐生庆悦欢喜之心。舍无量心，即如上三心亦
不执着，又舍弃一切冤亲之差别相，而平等对待之，故又名等心，或者均心、平心。此
四心普缘无量众生，引无量之福故名无量心。
Four Immeasurable Minds
The Brahmavihāras or the Four Immeasurable Minds are a series of four
Buddhist virtues and the meditation practices made to cultivate them. They
are loving-kindness, compassion, joy and equanimity.
The first mind is that of loving-kindness, which is offering happiness to
others. Second is the mind of compassion, which is the intention and wish to
relieve the suffering of others. Third is joy, which is felt when beings
experience happiness. And fourth is equanimity, being neither averse to nor
attached to anything. We understand that we cannot cause others to transcend
suffering or to feel happiness or joy, but we still have the wish that all
beings will be able to accomplish such freedom and joyfulness.
法曜法師簡歷
法曜法師博士出家於1987年，除了到過不同的國家參學佛法之外，也先後在斯里蘭卡獲
得學士及碩士學位, 並於2006年正式獲得英國布里斯托大學的神學與宗教系哲學博士學位
法曜法師於斯裡蘭卡出家，師從以研究阿毗達磨、唯識專長的法光法師，並在著名的大
學接受系統的巴利佛教的正規教育，獲得學士及碩士學位。畢業後，法師曾在台灣的圓
光佛學院研所教授阿含以及阿毗達摩等課程。之後又負笈英國，在著名的巴利佛教學者
Rupert Gethin的指導下攻讀並獲得博士學位。
法師在斯裡蘭卡和泰國系統地學習了南傳佛教特有的禪定和道次第修行體系。法師天資
聰慧，求學不倦，除掌握巴利、梵、漢、英這幾種基本的語言之外，更可使用藏文、日
文、德文、法文資；對佛學之掌握涵蓋巴利、漢、藏三大傳統，尤其對南傳和北傳的阿
毗達摩學有濃厚的興趣。
法師之興趣範圍，還擴展到西方哲學，以及基督教、伊斯蘭教、猶太教，與相關學者、
信徒亦多有對話、交流，遊歷足跡徧佈世界各地。
A Brief Bio of Ven. Dhammadipa
Venerable Dr. Dhammadipa (法曜) was ordained as a monk in the tradition of
Theravada since 1987. Travelling far and wide, for meditation techniques as
well as for widening his horizons, he has lived and trained in countries
such as Taiwan, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Myanmar, India, Europe etc.
He was born to a Chinese family in Taiwan and brought up in Malaysia, where
Islam is the major religion. He then became a monk in Sri Lanka, where South
Asian cultures and belief systems abound. After about 10 years of training
in Sri Lanka, he lived in France for a short period, before teaching in two
renowned Buddhist colleges in Taiwan. The years spent in the UK, for his PhD
in the Department of Theology and Religious Studies, University of Bristol,
allowed him to understand European culture and educational system. The last
two-and-half years of scholastic visiting in Harvard University and working
in monasteries of America provided him with opportunities to understand the
dimensions of cultural similarities and differences that span across the
Atlantic. | p******g
