Research Highlights
 High-performance photoresponse from SWNT/ZnO heterojunctions for UV
sensor and solar cell applications.
 High conductivity SWNT/PEDOT electrodes in a large area based on
solution transfer process by microcontact printing.
 Aligned carbon nanotube pattern-based biosensor for highly
sensitive and reliable detection of protein molecules.
 Graphene/SWNTs FET based platform for biosensor and water sensor
applications.
Area of Specialization
 Surface modification and solubilization of SWNTs.
 Preparation of SWNT based composites and their applications
including solar cell,
biosensor, UV sensor, electrodes for integrated circuit, and gas sensors.
 SWNT field effect transistors for biosensor and memory applications.
 Aligned SWNT film based integrated electrodes for energy storage
and energy conversion applications, such as lithium-ion battery devices and
solar cells.
 Detection of mercury ions, lead ions, cadmium ions, arsenic ions
and E. coli bacteria in drink water using graphene FET devices.
Research Projects:
2007-2011
 Title: Exploring applications of carbon nanotube based composites
This research was supported by a grant (06K1401-00411) from the Center for
Nanoscale Mechatronics & Manufacturing, one of the 21st Century Frontier
Research Programs supported by the Ministry of Science and Technology, Korea.
 Title: Single walled carbon nanotube LB film based biosensor for
detection of the HIV virus, which collaborated with Standard Diagnostic, Inc
.(SD)
Requirements: High sensitivity and good reproducibility
This Project was supported by a grant (A090902) from Gyeonggi Technology
Development Program funded by Gyeonggi Province.
Current project
 Title: graphene FET water sensor for detection of heavy metal ions
and E. coli bacteria in drinking water.
Requirements: Detection limit by our sensors should be lower than maximum
contaminant level defined by EPA
This Project is supported by the US National Science Foundation (CMMI-
0900509)
and University of Wisconsin- Milwaukee Research Foundation Bradley Catalyst
Grant.
Technical Expertise
Exposure with various sophisticated scientific analytical techniques such as
UV-Visible spectrophotometer, Raman spectroscopy, FT-IR spectroscopy, PL
excitation measurement, XPS, XRD, FESEM, AFM, TGA, Ion sputter, Contact
angle measurement, Langmuir-Blodgett technique, Keithley 2612 SYSTEM
sourcemeter, and nano fabrication.
