With 485, you can file for EAD and AP, and they enable you to work and
travel overseas. However, there's the restriction that you can't change
job within 180 days after the 485 filing, and if the 485 ever had any
problem, you might be out of status immediately.
With that said, today there is a news that they might remove the country
percentage cap in EB based green cards, and once the bill is passed,
Chinese and Indian EB2/3 pai qi will be shortened, and the NIW (also in
EB2) based green card approval might be much faster than now.

发帖数: 6523 | 18 Without EAD, you can not work without H/L/O visa. Filing 485 does not
automatically enable you to work. Nowadays EAD approval may take 3 months.
The 180 days rule is explained more here:

Key info:
If you change jobs before 180 days, then
case 1. if the USCIS does not make a decision within 180 days, then you are
fine. You can file AC-21.
case 2. if the USCIS makes a decision within 180 days, then you are in
trouble.
If you change jobs after 180 days, then you are fine, after filing AC-21.
However, I am not a lawyer, and I don't know what is truly official. This is
just for your info.
