I put it in my bag and left it in the car (stupid me), when I came back, my
door glass was shattered, and the bag was gone. it was in the middle of the
day, can't believe it happened.
I googled and tried to find ways to track the location of the laptop, none
of those works. wish I had prepared for this ...
it is time for a new one, thought I was settled for at least 5 years ... | z*********e

I know. it came to me for a second, then had to run to catch a shuttle. wish
I was not in a hurry.
anyone know how to access workperks? the passcode used last year had expired
(obviously)

spent last night reading on new laptops. x1c gen3 still looks like the best
choice for me. gen4 added sd card reader and nvme support, but lost
touchscreen. x1 yoga is cool, but in most cases, I will be using Linux, and
tablet mode is not as useful.
I have a mac mini, only use it occasionally. never liked it. I also thought
about mac air/mbp last year, but decided not to go that direction, because
1. it does not have a track point! I don't like trackpads, I even had to
disable the trackpad on my x1c to avoid accidental touches.
2. it does not have an efficient package management system, like apt-get/yum
, as in most Linux systems. I installed macports, but installing/upgrading
is painfully slow, and often I got errors when I upgrade packages.
3. very often, xcode conflicts with macports in library files and gcc
versions, management of default compiler version is a mess.
4. clang/llvm is not fully compatible with gcc. certain options, such as
static linking, are also not available on the mac. tweaking makefile is
painful.
5. yet many ppl say a mac is perfect for a developer, I disagree. if you are
serious about development, use Linux. you have good editors, good consoles,
good compilers, good package management, and infinitely number of choices
of different tools, in comparison, Mac is very limited (for example, I can
use apt-get to install/uninstall cuda, but can only do it manually on the
Mac. I also failed to enable LDAP client on that mac after spending days).
so, after all, I will keep my mini but unlikely get a mac laptop.

just pull the trigger for an X1 yoga.
i7-6600U, 16G, WQHD, 128G SSD (will upgrade to nvme myself) for $1238.
about the same as my x1 carbon ordered last year ($1220). Once it arrives,
the first thing I will do is to install the tracking software :)
