I want to build a HTPC. It will be connected a TV (HDMI) and an audio
receiver. It'll be used to:
1. Play movies from Blu-ray/DVD discs
2. Stream online contents (Netflex/Amazon instant video/Hulu, etc.)
3. Record/play back HD TV programs from cable using a tuner
4. Rip Blu-ray/DVD movies (if I ever need to do it)
5. Play Karaoke
OS/SW:
Preferred, Linux + XBMC ($0)
Otherwise, Windows 7 ($100)
Two builds:
AMD A6-3500 + A75 mobo
Intel i3-2100 + H67 mobo
Right now I don't want to add a discrete graphics card.
The questions are:
1) Which one is better?
2) Any suggestions on the CPU/mobo selection?
3) Any comments on running DVR in Linux?
4) In general, is it easier to play Linux on Intel systems than on AMD
systems?
