Gamo hunting pellets). Thought it was harmless to large animals (including
humans of course.)

probably hit a vital organ (heart, liver?) or broke a major blood vessel.
For a 10 grain pellet travelling at several hundred hundred fps, all it
takes is to enter at the right place at the right angle to take down a big
animal.
