And you don't have to beat him to win. You win when you performed better
than you used to be but your opponent not.
So golf becomes a game in which you always want to be better than yourself.
If not, even when you are really good, you can still lose to someone worse
than you.
That's my understanding of the merit of this game.

发帖数: 3714 | 4 是给业余选手一起玩准备的，而且你并不一定要用它，只不过说你想用的话，可以用。
就好象围棋里面的让子，高手让若干子，这样水平差很多的人下起来不至于太无趣。高
尔夫就是把让子给规范化了，也挺好的。

If you look-up the formula for how handicap is calculated you will realize
your handicap is a measure of your current "potential" not the simple
average of the difference of your score vs. par. If your average score is
92, your hdcp should be lower than 20. (Unless you play at a really easy
course most of the time.)
Therefore, a high hdcp (20+) has little chance of beating a low hdcp (8 or
less) if both keeps |

The low hdcp also adopt the same formula. So his handicap is not the simple
average of the difference of his score vs par either.
The formula is, if you play 20 round, choose 10 best round and average.
Assuming both people have the same scoring distribution, I don't see why it
favors one over the other.
In fact, the scoring distribution, (which may due to your playing style, or
mentality) matters. For example, A have a handicap of 9 and B have

consistent therefore have a much better chance of matching their handicap.
Even more so is outlined below:
Your statement of "The formula is, if you play 20 round, choose 10 best
round and average. " is partially correct. Your handicap according to
USGA formula is lower than the simple average of the differential to par,(
adjusted for course slope rating) because of a reduction factor being
applied to the score differential.
