"I've pasted a few of this week's AGA E-journal articles below, including
one about a new CD by pianist/composer Haskall Small (3d). Anyone who has
never heard his composition, A Game of Go, for two pianos, should make a
point to watch it on youtube (here's the link).

The haunting piece chronicles, move by move, an 1853 game played between Ota
Yuzo and Honinbo Shusako that ended in jigo (a draw -- there was no komi
back then). The game is shown in the video as the music is played. The
piece is generally calm, with excitement occurring during the ko fights." |
