No. Depending on one wonder (especially Great Library) makes you not able
to learn the key skills. I once played a game without building any wonders
(not even small wonders including FP) at emperor and won by domination
at 1000AD.
At higher level the most important skill is trading (aside from Micromanagement
of course). You cannot research all the techs yourself. Choose to research the
techs that AI usually ignore, and when you get monopoly trade to get other
