1920年9月17号，NFL诞生于Ohio州Canton的一个auto dealership。Canton，Ohio作为
NFL的摇篮，也是NFL的Hall of Fame的所在地。
在NFL之前，就有好多职业球队联盟组织，多在美国的中西部，基本限于一州之内或者
更小的范围。有过建立大联盟的努力，但都失败了。
NFL的建立起始于4个Ohio的橄榄球队在Canton的聚会。1920年8月20日，地区联盟Ohio
League（OL）当家冠军Canton Bulldogs邀请其他三个OL队商讨建立一个新的联盟，
Canton Bulldogs的主人是Ralph Hay。会议地点就在Hay所拥有的Auto dealership。参
加会议的其他几个队是Akron Pros, Cleveland Indians 和Dayton Triangles，会盟的
初始宗旨之一是避免恶性竞争，与会者协议建立American Professional Football
Conference 。
一个月后，更多的球队被吸引了进来。1920年9月17号，总共11个球队，包括来自于New
York, illinois和Indiana的外州球队，在同一地点正式结盟，联盟的名字改成了
American Professional Football Association(APFA)。当时享有盛誉的球员Jim
Thorpe成为第一任联盟主席。11个funding球队是Akron Pros, Canton Bulldogs,
Decatur Staleys, Chicago Cardinals， Dayton Triangles, Cleveland Indians,
Hammond Pros, Massillon Tigers, Muncie Flyers, Rock Island Independents,
Rochester Jeffersons。Decatur Staleys就是今天Chicago Bears。Chicago
Cardinals就是今天Arizona Cardinals。Dayton Triangles can be connected to
Today's Indiana Colts. Massillon Tigers在联盟还没有正式开始就离开了联盟。但
是联盟赛季结束前又有四个新球队加盟，这四个球队是BuffaloAll-Americans，
ChicagoTigers，Columbus Panhandles和Detroit Heralds。所以联盟第一个赛季有14
个球队。
联盟的第一场球赛是1920年9月26日Rock Island Independents对非联盟的St. Paul
Ideals。Independents beat Ideals 48-0. 联盟内第一场球赛是Dayton 14-0
Columbus。整个赛季只有4个队全部完成赛季比赛，Muncie只完成了一场比赛。赛季于
12月19号结束。 当时没有所谓的季后赛，在赛季结束后4个月，联盟用投票决定了联盟
第一个赛季的冠军，Akron Pros。Akron Pros赛季成绩是8赢，3平，总共只输了7分。
当初的11个funding球队只有3个流传了下来，不过官方只承认两个，Chicago Bears和
Arizona Cardinals。Indiana Colts其实有来自于Boston Yanks和Dayton Triangles的
血液。Indiana Colts“来自”于Dallas Texans，Dallas Texans来自于Boston Yanks
，Boston Yanks曾经并购了Brooklyn Tigers/Dodgers, Brooklyn Tigers/Dodgers来自
于Dayton Triangles. Dayton Triangles是11个funding球队之一。
Arizona Cardinals是联盟最老的球队，Arizona Cardinals 前身Racine Cardinals/
Normals成立于1898。 Indiana Colts“ 前身”Dayton Triangles成立于1913。
Chicago Bears 前身Decatur Staleys成立于1919。Geen Bay Packers也成立于1919，
但是Geen Bay Packers不是Funding球队，在联盟的第二个赛季加入联盟。Geen Bay
Packers是联盟中一直没有改名字和搬家的最老的球队，在同一地点用同一名字达96年。
联盟第二年把联盟总部移到了Ohio州的Columbus市。1922年6月24日，联盟正式改名为
National Football League(NFL)。 |

one of the candidates for the location of Bengals but lost out to Cincinnati
eventually.

were not invited or didn't care to join the league from the very beginning.
The other two Chicago teams did get onto the board early and survived...

发帖数: 4110 | 11 I was right. Cincinnati was chosen over Columbus when Bengals were expanded
into NFL (to be exact, the earlier pre-merge AFL). Paul Brown funded Bengals
a few years later after he was shoved out of Browns by Art Modell, the most
hated man by Ohio. Art Modell not only fired the legendary Paul Browns but
also uprooted the old Cleveland Browns to Baltimore.
