contract. Only thing different is, Flacco was underpaid compared to his
actual performance, and Finley is overpaid compared to his performance last
couple years, but not to his potential. He could be worth the money
potentially.
So all parties are betting on his potential. Packers are hoping to get his
best year out of him before letting him go. Finley is pocketing his 8.5M
cash this year and hoping he will perform up to the standard to get his next
fat contract. He is only 26. Young with lots of potential. He can't afford
to have a bad year.
If Finley plays great this year, no way Packers will be able to pay him 8M+
in 2014, so he will be gone. If Finley doesn't perform well in his prove-it
year, then Packers will cut him, or keep him with a low ball offer.
So they both hope he will do what Flacco did last year: win a SB and a fat
contract. With Jennings gone, and they let Crabtree go, Finley is Packers
best option. They can use the draft pick on defense or OL/RB. | p******s

1. this is his contract year. with every drop, he is losing like a million
dollars. He is going to amp up the efforts, catch the ball like it's a
million dollars.
2. with jennings gone, and MM committing to revamping the offense schemes to
maximize his talents. he is going to play a crucial role in Packers offense
. Don't be surprised if he has a breakout year like in 2009.
3. TT is not stupid. He doesn't overpay a player 8M+ if he has no faith in
him or a solid plan of using him to get the 8M value out. He improved
significantly in the second half of the 2012 season.

Steven Jackson, or Greg Jennings, or Chris Canty, or some other impact
players from the free agency, but we paid 8.25M for Finley. He's got to step
up in 2013. MM said he is going to simplify Finley's role, and will let him
do only the things he does the best.
This type of high bonus is usually supposed to trigger a cut or long term
extension. But the Packers did neither. So they either have 8M$ faith in him
, or were forced into the deal because Jennings insisted leaving and Finley
won't sign a long term contract less than 8M/yr. But MM and AR have been
praising his improvements since mid-season. So it does seems like they
intended to keep him all along.
I am less concerned about the 8.25M this year than what's the plan for next
year. Whether he has a good year or not, it seems like he will be gone next
year. The Packers will need to find his replacement now. Let's see what they
will do in the draft.
I know fantasy players won't like it. But the reality is, like Randy Moss in
49ers, Finley's impact to the game is beyond his numbers. His mere presence
creates a huge threat in the middle of the field. The defenses have to
adjusted toward him. Even thought he doesn't have many catches or TDs, he is
creating opportunities for the other WRs. His sheer size is the best
complement to Randall Cobb's speed in the middle of the field. Plus James
Jones and Jordy Nelson on the outside, and Aaron Rodgers under the center,
the Packers offense can potentially hurt you in some many ways. (Only if the
OL can keep AR up right, then this philosophy will work to its perfection)
That's another reason fantasy players don't like Packers WR/TE. James Jones
could have 3 TDs in one game, and the next game, it could be Randall Cobb
who catches 100+ yards. It's very unpredictable. However, all these being
said, Finley will have to put up huge numbers to be worth the 8M which is
just too much for just being a potential threat.
