A team with a losing record never has reached the playoffs in a non-strike
season. It happened only in the strike-shortened season of 1982, when two 4-5
clubs(Cleveland and Detroit, actually) reached the postseason. There have been
five 8-8 teams in the playoffs, most recently the Cowboys and Lions in 1999.
