一. Overview
美式橄榄球的场地长为100码, 宽度我不清楚 (反正不重要 :). 从球场中间开始标
号, 也就是说中线是50, 然后向两端递减, 每隔10码画一道线, 依次为40, 30, 20,
10. 在0码线, 也就是端线, 以外的区域叫 end zone (端区). End zone 的长度也是
10码. 这样橄榄球场地的总长度其实是 120 码. 在这间隔120码的场地两端各立了一个
鱼叉状的球门, 是为踢定位球 (field goal) 或 附加分 (extra point) 而设的.
橄榄球赛分四个quarters, 每个quarter各有15分钟. 头两个quarter后是
中场休息. 中间有无数次的停表时间在此就不一一细表.
在比赛的任何时刻, 每个队均只能有11名队员在场上, 一方全是进攻队员,
另一方则全是防守队员. 比赛刚开始时, 由防守方在自己三十码线处把球踢给
对方 (kick off). 进攻方接到球后就会尽量往中场线冲, 而防守方也会在球踢出后
就冲向对方, 希望能够尽早把进攻方得球的队员挡住. 进攻的一方最终就 | b****e

although i have one question:
after 3 downs .. you don't HAVE TO punt.. esp. if the time left is
only seconds... and you are only a couple yards short. we often see
4th and 1 .. 4th and inches for example :) | B*****n

Thanks... I hope it helps some newbies to gain more interests in football...
Your certainly right... I'm only covering the very *basics* rules here...
but every rule has exceptions, like in this one. Yes if you are desperate,
or if you are a gambler, and you only need 1 or 2 yards to gain another
first down, you will go for it at forth down instead of punting it away.
But if you failed on the fourth down conversion, the result is unthinkable...

what does this mean? do they change players after kicking off or just change
position?

why is it the best chance for the opposite team? the position may not be
good to the opposite team if the original offensive team has passed 50 yard
line. can you specify clearly?

They change players. Offense players only play offense. Defensvie players
play defense. Only few players can play both, like Dion Sanders, maybe
Charles Woodson...
Even they pass 50 yard, it might still be a good posistion. Because if
they punt, the ball might end inside 10 yards. 50 yard vs 90 yard for
offense, you do the math.
it might looks easy to you. BUt the succesful rate is less than 50%.
becuase you only have one chance. Sometimes, it is even difficult to move
less than a yard.

run ?
they don't have time to change players, right?
so, defensive players have to be offensive players at this time?

Exactly. When defense gets a fumble recovery or an interception, defense team
becomes offense team and offense team start to defend instantly. The game is
not stopped until the play is dead(including touchtowns)

After the ball is dead(if not a touchtown), both teams will change their
players.
If it is a touchtown, then the team which got the TD will kick the ball
to the other team. The other team will start offense again.

看历史当然是BEARS强了。 BUCS 97年以前连续十几年都是LOSING SEASON。
DUNGY 来了后才有起色。 其实我不喜欢BUCS现在的打法。防守不错，但
进攻太保守。 QB没脑子。
当年BUCS换教练时JIMMY JOHNSON是第一人选，他把BUCS嘲笑了一番，然后去
了MIAMI。 STEVE SPURRIER 是第二人选，他有些心动，但因为BUCS有可能要
离开TAMPA而作罢。 所以最后给了TONY DUNGY。
如果99 SEASON BUCS 进攻还没起色，大概OFFENSE COORDINATOR 和QB 都要

Curtis Enis, Bear's #1 draft pick last year, didn't perform at all and
probably will continue to be down in the new season. He, together w/
Bobby Engram, is the only reason i care Bears... (both are penn-staters :)
but wish they good luck this year anyway... they lost many close games
last season. |
