caught a sea bass and some cunners , most hooked on belly by accident. In
fall, this boat caught many good sea bass.
First offshore trip MLK day on Big Jamaica, saw some big and fat sea bass,
look like small pigs https://www.facebook.com/TheBigJamaica. I caught ~10
in the range of 13-17 inches, did not catch those big ones, but the guy
next to me caught ~25 and kept a limit of 15 big ones. So the fish were
there, I just need to learn how to catch them. I caught ~15 porgy (many
above 14 inches), particularly when I changed hook size from 6/0 to 3/0. I
could have caught more but decided to change back to 6/0 for sea bass. This
is the first time I caught porgy. They fought harder than sea bass of the
same size, shaking left and right. Also caught ~8 blue fish, they fought
hardes but most people want to avoid them. 70% of the time, the action is
non-stop as long as one is not stucked or tangled: a fish or two bite in 10
second, then it will take a few minutes and more than 100 cranks to reel it/
them in. If you want to sail on Big Jamaica, you have to mail researvation http://www.bigjamaica.com/bigjamaicareservationform.html with check, they don’t take credit card. Here is a resourceful blog on off-shore sea bass though I’m not sure about his opinions on cranking up off the bottom and on Gamakatsu Octopus hook.
