Now we are looking for a house in southern California. We have two choices:
1. Old house in Yorba Linda. The house is built in 80s or early 90s. Good
school district, from elementary to high school all 9-10 rank. The location
is about 30 min driving for both me and my husband. Old house has bigger
yard and view. The price is high, around $750K.
2. New house in Chino. The price is very cheap, only $55K for big house. Of
coz, there are reasons for the price. School district is not very good. The
elementary school is 10 though, If lucky, my kid can get into a nearby
charter school (also 10). The school is from K to 8. So at lease the school
is okey for 7 years. Then we need to send her to private high school or move
again. But who knows what's gonna happen in 7 years. The house in Chino has
some environmental problems. First is the cow smell and fly problem. But I
asked ppl living there. They said the smell is not very often, also not many
flies. Hope the cows will disappear after a few years. Second is the
electrical towers nearby. I am not sure if it is harmful to health. Third,
there is a prison close by. But it may not be a big problem for us. Of coz,
new house has small yard. But we are not garden ppl. So small yard is better
for us. No view of coz. Chino is only 20min local driving to my work place
though my husband drives further with some traffic.
Personally I like to live in a new house, with all new appliance. There is
builder's warranty also. I am afraid old house will have all kinds of
problem (water leak, etc). Also, it's cheaper. So we can have money to send
my kids to private school. I also like the charter school very much. It
looks better than a 10 rank public school. But it also cause other problem.
If we move to yorba linda, my parent can help pick up and drop my kid to
public school. If move to Chino, no school is in walking distance.
Anybody can give some suggestion? Old house at higher price but with good
public school or new house with much lower price? |
