I fell into the trap of confusing the reputation of science here with the
present reality. This is not a university anymore but a business with very
few up in the hierarchy, like our formidable duo, profiteering and the rest
of us are milked for money, be it professors for their grant income or
students who pay 100.- pounds just to extend their write-up status. |

太可怕了，难道这个学校没有正式的tenure 系统么? 其实美国医学院这里如果教授也
钱了也会受嫌弃的，但是最多就是扣工资和收走地盘这种间接方式来赶人。英国那个居
然直接赶人还是很让我意外的。

. It is truly against the law to fire you. This policy applies to even
lecturers.
Hence, I think what this professor was threatened is against the UK law.

发帖数: 3522 | 11 英国最近的形式变化很快。首先是大学招生20年来首次出现下降，然后再加上政府取消
对学校的subsidize，大学的经费一下少了很多。我在的学校也说是铁饭碗，不过这一
年也走了好多人，但都处理的很好，年纪大的直接提前退休，产量低的直接转teaching
。不会像帝国那样直接fire。
我两年前找工作的时候，遇到一个50多岁的人。跟我一样，找AP的职位。后来回来搜了
下这个人，灌水的文章一把，还有几本写的不错的教科书。他当时就是帝国的
，据他说学校换了个美国来的院长，搞美国的tenure制度，整走了很多人。
你可以看看帝国AP的平均年龄，据我一个朋友说，AP普遍都是35+，这还是基本没有
postdoctoral的专业。
现在想来，10年后真不见的有铁饭碗这一说。帝国这种做法基本就把大学搞成公司了。

我们这肯定不会这样的 大家都是乐乐呵呵 只要过了probation, 只要学校不倒闭 不会
裁人的 也就是不能晋升

原来他们还真下得了手。华威医学院去年亏损5百万，听说现在也在赶人。。。这个世

是公众人物，家属可能也要求保密。
有关Fire的事，是有人匿名发出来的。

设定的时间发出。如果这是这样，应该是自杀。很悲哀。
其实有很多生活方式。树挪死，人挪活。
