1. Being a new faculty.
2. Being in a long-distance relationship with another tenure-track faculty.
3. Being pregnant. |

industry.
Without a husband distracting me, I was able to focus on things that matter
the most for me: 1) feeding myself; 2) reading "what to expect when you are
expecting" (back then there were not as much information on the web as today
, or I was not taking advantage of the web); 3) doing my research and
teaching; 4) enjoying pregnancy. In my first semester, I did not write a
single proposal.
Pregancy was not the most difficult time. Babycaring in the first year was.
Your top priority is to find a good quality daycare that is conveniently
located near campus. I was lucky to secure a spot for the daycare on campus
(being a new faculty and having a long distance relationship certainly
helped!).
Pregnancy and childcaring actually distracted me from feeling the stress
many junior faculty would typically feel. So at the end it was not that much
of a burden. Looking back, I probably could have written a few more papers
if I did not have to deal with all those, but who cares? What an addiitonal
few papers would do to my career?
I am not sure what kind of university you are in. I am in a state university
that ranks in the 50s-60s. So in general the level of stress is relatively
low. If you are in one of those top universities, you might have more
pressure than I did.
Regardless though, don't worry too much about tenure at this point. Work
hard, but do not worry. That way you can get things done and still live a
relatively good quality life.
Good luck! |

后者,我觉得版上就有,还不是一个。
你这真的不是最难的。
等娃出生了,要是有老人来帮忙就好多了。 没有的话,花钱找个住家保姆,也还好。
都会过去的。
我们共勉吧。 |
