techniques，但是研究区域和具体应用topics不一样。请问在30-40分钟内，应该选哪
个research presentation topic好些？该教职强调本领域的quantitative techniques
及其应用。考虑到该学校的位置，我个人认为博士论文的研究比较相关（在cover
letter的future research里提的4点中的前3点与此相关），但只用了最基本technique
，而且现在好几年没有做了。
1）只选博士论文（发了1篇文章），有些弱。
2）如果只选后来做的内容（有2篇一作文章），讲的具体的话，30多分钟也可以。
Techniques用的多些。
3）如果两个都选，怎么衔接？可以用techniques的应用总括？

可以先介绍一下大背景，然后用你的两部分研究作为两个方向，和实例展开来说，你可
以加一些起程转折的内容在两部分中间 |

我们专业一般junior candidates只讲一个研究，把两三个穿起来讲的有，但难度比较
大，可能会显得零散，而且头绪多了听众问题也多，万一提的问题涉及到不是很熟悉的
领域，你回答不好，反倒吃亏。
我前两天听job talk就碰到类似情况，讲的人是个ABD，自己研究都讲完了，还非要引
申到其他领域，结果被人扔了一猴子扳手。

In my case, I covered three topics in my talk but they were all connected
around a central theme. The message to send is: here is what I did and will
do. In my area, I am the best. My work is critical for your institution
to boost research your advertised. Some people like the talk to be at a very
detailed level and they love to see equations. Some like to see your
visions so a bit background check for their apitites is necessary. Call the
searching committee chair and ask him what they are expecting will
definitely help you find your focus.

seminar. It is in the chalk talk or during the individual interview. I
would never give too much detail on my research ideas but I will let them
know where I received my funding and how much I got. I will also let them
know what types of funding I will pursue for my future research topics.
Your past record normally convinces more people than your illustration of
the future.
If you have a strong past record, you do not need to belabor on this.
Otherwise, you will need to paint a picture brighten enough and realistic
enough to the interviewers.

发帖数: 15 | 13 我是楼主。博士期间做的，最近几年没有做，但是想着日后可以继续做（导师的idea还
不错，换个研究区域应用一下也没有问题），可能会比较接近该学校的期望。第二个方
面的研究我会说我所参与和熟悉的部分（做过几次大会发言，想着总结调整一下以前的
ppt slides）。

己的research，再说general applications of techniques？这样的话，似乎2、3页
ppt slides就完了。

presentation can be on any topic of your choosing, but we would like it to
be focused on your research rather than on teaching. We'd like to have you
speak for 30-40 minutes about your research and then have an additional 10-
15 minutes for question and answer.”）
能否说一下大概的presentation时间分布？我准备结合两方面的研究，但是两个研究区
域非常不同。我想以技术应用作为总括，可都是非常general的，1页slide就包括了。
要先说个人的研究背景吗？我想每个方面都说下日后的研究方向（出文章多的是最近做
的，还有1篇在review，1篇在写）。会不会显得太show off？不用单列出的文章吧。在
ppt里相关地方，说一下就足够了？

in a slide right after you finished presenting this area. It is not a show
off. You need to show your strongest self to them, right? If you have 10
papers in one field and all were published on top journals, you will make an
impression deep enough.
Times wise, everyone has a rhythm so do as you feel comfortable. Practice
so that you can finish on time. Good luck. |
