of offer?
I had one onsite interview last month and I know the department will have a
faculty meeting this month. I am praying all the day now. | l*****x 发帖数: 37 | 2 Bless~~~ Also bless for my LD,he is in the same situation as LZ. | O*********r 发帖数: 1835 | 3 Flow chart (based on my experience sitting in the committee):
1. Search Committee presents results and rank the candidates
2. After that, each faculty member will have a chance to express their
opinions
3. Dept. Chair consolidates different views and finalizes the rank; report
it to the Dean
4. Dean will make the final decision (usually the same as what the chair
recommends). In some school, Provost will further review the Dean's decision.
5. Now, the chair will inform the top-ranked candidate, negotiate the
startup package, etc.
Bottom line: Dept. Chair has a lot of power. He can override individual
faculty member's choice. However, most chairs are seasoned politicians so
he knows how to balance different forces. | d********a 发帖数: 53 | 4 Thanks very much. This is really helpful. |
