Prasher received his Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the Ohio State University in
1979. From 1979 to 1983, he worked in genetics and biochemistry research at
the University of Georgia, where he identified aequorin.[1] He then joined
the Biology Department of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, Woods
Hole, Massachusetts where he studied bioluminescence. In 1988, he received a
three-year, $200,000 grant from the American Cancer Society to try to clone
the gene for green fluorescent protein | F****r 发帖数: 345 | 2 Thanks OP for posting this article!
I remember hearing the story from NPR about two years ago in my car. Dr.
Prasher is probably the world's most underpaid shuttle bus driver. It's like
you bought a megamillions lottery ticket, gave it to some unknown folks,
and they won. Just feel pity for his unfortunate academic adventure. He
himself probably got over the missed-out success and fame long time ago, but
it is still sad to see a great scientific mind mistreated by life.

discovery. The Nobel Prize now is like a lottery award. So many talented
persons are working on every possible direction. Lucky one will get the
honor. Some top scientists without Nobel Prize have made more contribution
than Nobel Prize Winners.
If Prasher realized how important his discovery will be, he would have
received his honor that he deserved. But he did not have such luck or vision
at that time. |
