请问大家该怎么办。大家给了一些建议，在这里再次表示感谢。我最后接受了那个
OFFER，但是真的不是很满意，不仅是对OFFER本身，也包括对和DEAN NEGOTIATE的过
程。
我现在收到了另外一个学校的OFFER，相比第一个，我更喜欢这个。我能够跟第一个学
校说我不去了吗？ 我也知道这样不好，可是我也不想去了第一个学校以后再长时间的
后悔...

打电话或者飞过去跟系主任和Dean面谈。告诉他们具体情况，包括为什么你觉得新的

更适合你，请他们定夺。人家有可能放你，也有可能给你加package。大家都知道既要
留人
也要留心的道理。

告诉他们。你就说你不会break ethic rule，但是会试一下有没有win-win的机会。
跟第一个学校面谈的时候，告诉他们同样的话，并且再次感谢他们的offer，给足面子，
他们不会直接找第二个学校的。
另外，除非两个学校有太大的悬殊，否则听一听第一个学校的对两个学校的比较也许有
帮助的。

not as big as some people stated over here. Everyone is a human. We do
understand. The point is that don't leave a nasty impression to the first
institute. Our dept had such case, one accepted an offer and later on he
withdrew.
I suggest you to do this.
1. Let the second institute give you 2-3 days to consider (I believe you
do have such waiting period.)
2. Call the chair of the second institute and tell him you get |

Thank you very much for your advices. Actually the two offers are not that
far off from each other. My inclining to the second school is mostly driven
by family reasons. But your point is very valid. I will talk to the first
school about my situation and hopefully they will understand it.

None body would accpet any false excuse, although none would speak out. It
doesn't hurt you if you assume anyone is smarter than you.
Do not 跟第二个学校打个招呼 and let then know 第一个学校. You should
minimize the impact.
If you like to give out a little bit more info about these two offers, like
locations, ranks, research/teaching, sizes of cities, opportunities for
spous to find a decent job, then others here could provide more idea

second school is mostly due to family reasons. It is really not an excuse.
But as WithGod pointed out, it probably makes no difference to the first school no matter what my reasons might be. If it's not a dilemma, I wouldn't come here
to seek advices.
