学校有一个很小的internal funding，专门给AP的，钱不多，$600
我是做imaging的，所以觉得有一个小的projector在office,lab和出差做demo方便
因为图像和video最有说服力
然后我给学校写了个一页的proposal，申请买个$600的projector
学校批了，说是要系里match一半
然后我把学校批准的信forward给系主任，说我想要这个projector
没想到系主任找到我办公室，第一句话就是问：你为什么要买这个projector
是不是family use，拿回家？
我ft，当时我有点结巴，都没想到他这么问
我就跟他解释，我希望这是系里的property，可以有专人看管，我来申请这个小钱，只
要我随时能借到就行，最好放在我的实验室
系主任说系里有个大的，院里还有几个，你别买了
我也同意了
不过一开始就问我是不是family use,让我很郁闷
我把我的proposal也发给他了啊，里面说的很清楚是什么用途
忍不住抱怨几句，是不是我一开始就错了？ |

to know every proposal going out of the department. And technically,
he/she can deny any of them. But in reality, most chairs
don't care about small proposals.

likely 800x600 and low power. That's why he
mentioned a bigger one.

indeed not good for professional use (you need
at least 1024x768). At 50 ANSI Lumens,
it's like candle light, comparing with a normal
classroom projector at thousands of Lumens.

When I was in graduate school, one of assistant professor almost got fired
by using his funding-purchased camera at home (he used it at office too),
but the department made a big deal of it.
When I moved to a new department, one senior professor in particular told me
not to use copy machine for personal stuff, and not to bring office
facility to home.

I have never been a faculty, as my application were all rejected. However, I
was a student at University of Illinois, and postdocs at several famous
universities.
The chairperson is unprofessional. The projector costs little. Most
important, anything bought with government or school funds are school's and
inventoried accordingly. It is impossible to take it off campus, as it is a
crime. Your chairman may be mean; watch out.

projector加一个screen，说用来做presentation，没人说啥啊。
你们系估计是穷的揭不开锅了吧？$300也唧唧歪歪。

我家里面缺不缺电脑和打印机。
所以说，应该尽快问问大秘和你的mentor，把什么能做什么不能做搞清楚。 |
