对学生很好.
从国内招学生是一个好办法. 可是我把一个可能的学生推荐给另一中国教授了, 因为那
个教授比我强, 学生的出路会比跟我好.
我希望有学生, 问题是如何让学生知道你的工作, 这样他们才可能有兴趣, 然后选你为
导师. |

old ones or those want to publish many papers, prefer APs instead of
senior professors, because AP need more papers for promotion. Some
students do not mind you 'pushes' him/her, as long as you are not
mean. So, if you can emphasize this point either through talking
with them or on your webpage, it may attract those students.

Thanks for your inputs! I agree that an AP is not a bad choice for stduents
since usually AP's are in the most cutting edge area and motivated to work
hard. I'll consider to put a piece of advertisement in my webpage. I still
feel it's not appropriate to directly recruit students. I'm afraid students
don't like it. |

And make sure you put your best headshot there.
-Mingle with students in beer hours or at other occasions.
-Smile. Let them feel you are approachable.
-Make it clear that you have enough money to support students
(till they graduate).

a relatively small group and makes his expectation clearly as well as
appropriately in his webpage. I think directly recruiting
students/postdocs is not inappropriate. I have seen many professors,
young and old, American or Chinese, do this at their webpages.

her first semester in the department, asking her if she is interested in
joining his group. The professor felt she did well in the class. However,
the precondition of doing so is, you really like the 'target' student.

Admittedly, there are still some Chinese professors who really care about their students'future. If they haven't other options, some of them still like to join CAPs groups. Therefore, pls do not worry. |

楼主把自己的主页搞的花哨一点，贴点你学生，家庭，朋友的照片，你旅游的照片啥的
，让学生感觉你不是挺严肃的，这样可能有帮助。
因为我在网上看人家说，一般教授的主页上有很多照片，特别是有和自己学生的照片的
，一般都比较和谐。那种啥都没有的人，一般是严格的主。 |

也许他有目的呢. 后来他很快回国了(中东).
