role I violated? I just want to help my previous employer to spread the
word and help some recent graduates in Analytical Chemistry and /or
Environmental Chemistry finding their first 'real' job.

Environmental Lab Scientist
The State Hygienic Laboratory (Iowa’s Environmental and Public Health
Laboratory) at the University of Iowa has an opening for an environmental
lab scientist to perform organic chemical analysis and conduct research
projects in support of an FDA/FERN grant for food safety and security. This
position is a one-year term appointment with benefits, with a strong
possibility of continuing contingent on FDA funding.
Candidates should have a Master’s degree, in chemistry or a closely related
discipline with a minimum of three-five years of relevant experience, or an
equivalent combination of education and experience. A minimum of one-two
years of experience in chromatographic techniques is required, with LC/MS
and GC/MS being the primary techniques that will be used. Candidates are
expected to have an advanced understanding of chromatographic separations
and instrumentation. Experience with extraction and cleanup techniques for
environmental and/or food samples is required. Solid communication,
leadership and organizational skills are necessary. The candidate will be
required to work in a team environment but should be highly motivated and
self-directing in their work with minimal day to day input required from the
project’s principal investigator. Some of the work will require handling/
testing chemicals that are highly toxic. Must have Demonstrated experience
working effectively in a diverse environment.
The following training and/or experiences are highly desirable for this
position: A doctorate degree, experience with ELISA, analysis of food
samples, analysis of clinical specimens, analysis of environmental samples,
participation in proficiency testing programs, experience working with toxic
and/or hazardous chemicals, and development of new testing procedures and/
or modification of existing testing procedures. A criminal and educational
background check will be conducted on the final candidate.
