A new land surface hydrology group in the dept of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Pennsylvania State University is seeking highly motivated PhD students focusing on high performance modeling of large scale land surface hydrology. The interdisciplinary research topics include interactions between hydrology, vegetation, biogeochemistry and atmosphere, scale issues, impacts of land use and climate change. Applicants must be passionate about scientific research and protecting earth's water resources and environment in general.
Applicants interested in the position should have a BS or MS degree in engineering, geosciences, environmental sciences, applied maths, computer science or related fields. Required qualifications include programming experiences (Fortran or C++), strong numerical modeling skills, and excellent analytical ability. Experience in high performance computing is advantageous but not necessary. The selected candidates will receive comprehensive education in broad disciplines including high performance computation, hydrology, geosciences and numerical modeling, etc, work with collaborators from different areas/institutions/laboratories and gain wide career development options.
