Excerpt from amazon.com :
Astrid Magnussen, the teenage narrator of Janet Fitch's engrossing first
novel, White Oleander, has a
mother who is as sharp as a new knife. An uncompromising poet, Ingrid
despises weakness and
self-pity, telling her daughter that they are descendants of Vikings, savages
who fought fiercely to
survive. And when one of Ingrid's boyfriends abandons her, she illustrates
her point, killing the man
with the poison of oleander flowers. This leads to a life sentence in prison | A****d 发帖数: 269 | 2
Well, through the eyes of Astrid, i saw and felt a world that i can
seldom conceive before, so complicated with levels of cruelty between
people.
Though tremendous difficulties, or even failed several times to live
as a person (not as a demeaned body), AStrid always could keep her own
traits and artistic heart alive and grew.
She is really a wonderful person who can go through all the adversities
and be successfully living as the person she wants to.
I also like the writer's poetry-like passage
