Honeywell UOP is seeking a highly qualified individual in the area of
metallurgy to join us. This career opportunity is available for a senior or
lead scientist position within our Materials Characterization department,
part of UOP’s Research & Development organization. The individual should
have practical experience on metallurgical analysis using advanced
characterization techniques such as optical imaging and scanning electron
microscopy (SEM).
The position will involve SEM along with Energy Dispersive X-ray
spectroscopy (EDS) analysis in an industrial environment, applied to a broad
range of materials, with an emphasis on metallurgy related materials and
catalysts. The successful candidate will be expected to play a principal
role in participating in metallurgical analysis projects, operating and
maintaining multiple instruments, performing both routine and specialized
analysis and assembling data analysis summaries. Other responsibilities
include providing training to new instrument users and ensuring smooth day
to day lab operations. In addition to experimental characterization work,
the individual will work on teams and interact and collaborate with chemists
, chemical/mechanical engineers and scientists from a broad cross-section of
technical fields. For a successful candidate the position will provide
intellectual challenge, increasing responsibility and the ability to work on
a variety of complex and challenging materials characterization problems.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
• Minimum B.S. in Metallurgy, Materials Science/Engineering, Physics,
Chemistry, or related
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in SEM/EDS analysis, or comparable
experience
Preferred Qualifications:
• PhD in Metallurgy or Materials Science/Engineering
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in metallurgical analysis
• Deep understanding of metallurgical principles and experience
performing metallurgical analysis
• Ability to design targeted experiments to solve complex materials
science problem
• In-depth, operational knowledge and experience of multiple SEM
techniques and instruments, including performing EDS analysis and expertise
with associated analysis software
• Practical, hands-on lab experience, including troubleshooting and
basic instrument maintenance
• Optical microscopy experience, as well as familiarity and knowledge
of other materials characterization techniques such as X-Ray diffraction
• Experience characterizing a broad variety of materials and sample
preparation methods
• Solid knowledge on organic and inorganic chemistry
• Strong demonstration of teamwork abilities
• Skilled with use of Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word,
PowerPoint)
• Excellent communication skills to understand and document project
requirements and to effectively convey analysis results to other disciplines
.
• Ideal candidate is high-energy, creative, and a self-starter, who
demonstrates technical excellence and is comfortable working in a lab-based
team environment.
