i don't know much about other guys, but for Li Wei, I believe he hasn't
resigned totally from his US university.

page at CKGSB, I was wondering why it only mentioned that before joining
CKGSB he taught in Duke without a single word about UVa?
Plus, Li Wei's profile is still on UVa's staff page along with other UVa

given 1 year (sometimes even 2 years) to decide if he/she wants to formally
resign from the current position, even if he/she has no intention of return.
I am not sure if this is the case for Li Wei. Unless he formally submitted
his resignation, the UVA has to list him as a faculty anyway.
I also noticed that his paper is on AER P&P, which is quite different from
《美国经济学期刊》as mentioned in his Chinese bio. You might want to make

If one wants to do research, very few ppl would be hooked up by 30-50k extra
dollars if he has offer from top 30 schools in US.Btw, top notch income tax
rate in China is 45%. At least 60k out of the 150k will be paid as tax.
ckgsb,pku,tsinghua...as platform are awesome, but they are more suitable for
senior guys who want to seek a second career after many years in the US.

the US. So I don't think 150k is that attractive moneywise. Money is not the
most important thing to get good economists though it is necessary.

and another went to UT Austin.
However, there could be people who were overlooked in the market and the
CKGSB offer can help them establish their career without worrying about
